Marcel Wyss feels he is approaching top form with just two weeks to go before one of his main objectives: the Tour of Switzerland. As a proof, his 9thplace in the Bayern-Rundfahrt individual time trial today.
The man from Bern did not hide his satisfaction with his progress despite the fact he did concede 42 seconds to the days winner, Adriano Malori (Lampre-Merida). The Italian rouleur put in a performance which resulted in winning the hilly 31 kilometer stage by 18 seconds over his nearest competitor to assume the leaders jersey on the eve of the final stage into Nuremberg.
Im really happy with my performance in this stage. I had very good sensations in my legs, Wyss said. And I was able to accelerate in the final section despite the headwind. This is my best time trial performance in four years. That bodes well for the Tour of Switzerland. I need to concentrate on keeping this form in order to do well in Switzerland which is one of my major goals for the entire season.
Martin Elmiger, annoyed by the visor on his helmet, also had an encouraging ride, finishing a strong 11th place. Thomas Löfkvist, not on top while still building his form after breaking his left index finger, was optimistic after the stage, though he lost 133 to the leader.
I was able to use my power nicely. I feel like I should be on pace to be fit for the Tour of Switzerland because every day I am gaining confidence in my form.
