The pure sprinter Sacha Modolo found the gap through which he was able to use his speed to nab the victory on the first day of the Mallorca Challenge in the Trofeo Palma, which took place under sunny skies and pleasant temperatures (19°).
Having already won this year in the final stage of the Tour de San Luis, the Italian Lampre rider won ahead of Jens Debusschere (Lotto Belisol) and Dylan Groenewegen (de Rijke) who was punished for having over-anxiously raised his hands in victory when approaching the line.
Vicente Reynes finished in 13th place at the end of the 116 kilometer long race which consisted of ten 11.6 kilometer laps.
IAM Cyclings new recruit unfortunately started the finale on the wrong side of the road.
I chose the right side, but it was the wrong option. This will certainly not stop me from taking away the good lessons I learned in my first race in IAM Cycling colors. The guys road very hard for me. Hollenstein, Löfkvist and Kluge placed me really well. The legs are good and I am motivated to make the most of the other opportunities this week. Tomorrow we will have to be careful with the expected winds. But we have the guys to climb at the front.
