THE ANALYSIS
We came here without too much pressure, the directeur sportif Lionel Marie explained. We placed no ultimatums on the riders beforehand. The results would essentially happen by themselves. In the end, we met our expectations thanks to the strong performances that several riders had throughout the week. I am thinking particularly of Reto Hollenstein, and then a very good time trial from Jérôme Coppel. We also saw a team that knew how to work together well. At this level the competition is very interesting. This has ended up being very constructive for the future.
THE CONFIRMATION
Reto Hollenstein. Having already proved his good form at the Vuelta Valenciana, the Swiss rider reconfirmed his strength during the Ruta del Sol. After taking 7th, 9th and 11th stages, Hollenstein nevertheless expressed a certain disappointment: My regret is not having made it to a podium at the end of one of the stages, Reto Hollenstein admitted. I gave 100% of myself every day. Overall I am satisfied and I leave feeling strengthened after this race.
THE POSITIVE POINT
The overall strength of the team, a confident Lionel Marie assured. Everyone gave 100% of his resources. Mathias Frank, who is in a recovery phase, sacrificed himself for his teammates. Martin Elmiger was a great captain, as usual. I am also remembering that Clément Chevrier definitely contributed to the good performance of the team.
THE NUMBER
4950m – This is the elevation gain that was recorded within the 170 kilometer race on Sunday. But that didnt seem to slow the peloton down. The average speed for this last stage ended up at 35.7km/h.
