IAM Cycling
The news of the accidental death of Kristof Goddaert (27 years old) on Tuesday afternoon during a training ride in the city of Antwerp has struck IAM Cycling at its heart.
General Manager of the team, Michel Thétaz has declared that he was devastated, like any team would be, by this terrible news.
We think first of his family and loved ones, to whom we offer our sincere condolences and assure them of our support in this terrible ordeal. The IAM Cycling family has lost Kristof Goddaert, an exemplary professional rider and a man of great quality.
He came to us in December of 2012 with a strong desire to join us in meeting this new challenge. His continual good mood, enthusiasm and willingness to engage fully in his endeavors were very much appreciated qualities.
He returned from the Tour of Qatar and continued to refine his shape with an eye toward the spring classics, but his tragic fate will prevent him from achieving his dreams. To honor the memory of Kristof Goddaert, our friend and teammate, IAM Cycling will continue to race with an increased desire to be victorious in his memory, even if he can no longer join us now that he has moved on to eternal life.
