IAM Cycling will not only be enjoying the fireworks in honor of a Swiss national holiday on Thursday, August 1.
The Swiss Pro Continental team will be active on two different fronts. In addition to sending a team to the Tour of Denmark, three riders will take the time to support hundreds of cycling fans involved in the Cyclosportive des vins du Valais, which will use four various circuits around Sion to challenge the riders, the longest being 129 kilometers.
Jonathan Fumeaux, Sébastien Reichenbach and Johann Tschopp will take part in the Cyclosportive before they find themselves back in the peloton at the Tour of Portugal for Fumeaux, and the Tour de lAin for Reichenbach and Tschopp.
The three pros from the Valais region have already taken advantage of previewing a large part of the route in early May, as a way to establish a reference time on the climbs, against which all competitors can measure themselves.
Johann Tschopp was full of praise regarding the work accomplished by the organizers.
The scenery is superb. But it will be important to be fit since the climbs are not easy. With proper training, all participants can enjoy the views and have fun, which is the main priority in a Cyclosportive event like this.
As for Jonathan Fumeaux, he gave valuable advice in view of how hot the weather will likely be.
The important thing is to dose out your efforts wisely and not to over-reach your abilities, which could end up injuring you at such an event. Given that it will likely be very hot, I would advise everyone to drink before you feel thirsty to avoid getting dehydrated. With that in mind, taking along a bottle with an energy drink thats not too sweet, and then a second bottle with plain water will be perfect in addition to the supplies that will be provided. With a starting time of 9 am, wearing a helmet will greatly reduce the risk of being exposed to too much sun.
