Between La Marseillaise of 2013 and La Marseillaise of 2014, IAM Cycling, the only Swiss professional cycling team in the peloton, has reinforced itself and hopes for much success as a result.  The team will nevertheless have to wait for its first success of the year after the Belgian Kenneth Vanbilsen (TopSport) took the win in Marseille.

A day raced in the cold and under cloudy skies remained unsatisfactory for the team’s directeur sportif Eddy Seigneur.

“When looking at the day’s balance, our results are mixed.  I enjoyed and appreciated Jonathan Fumeaux’s attitude.  He managed to bridge up to the chase group in pursuit of the leader (Chérel) before the pack came back together.  He was not missing much in an effort to take the win for the day.  However, I would have liked to see at least two other members of our team up there with him.”

The Swiss Fumeaux’ reaction on the arrival line

“We really road at a high pace today.  But I was comfortable the whole time and did not hesitate to follow the guys attacking on the La Gineste.  The sensations in my legs were great.  We were missing only 600 meters to play with in order to fight for the win, and that’s a shame.  I am satisfied with my performance and am confident for the future.”

As for Sylvain Chavanel, surrounded by his supporters, he made his mark.  “We missed out on going for the win once the group got back together.  I am satisfied with this first day, even if I wanted to play for the win in the sprint. It is going to get better and better.”
