THE FACT OF THE DAY

IAM Cycling will line up at the Clasica San Sebastian with two riders who will also be heading to Rio to fly the flags for their respective nations. On Saturday, August 6, one week after the Spanish race, Latvian Aleksejs Saramotins and Colombian Jarlinson Pantano will be on the start line for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Pantano was selected at the last minute due to the fact that Nairo Quintana has pulled out, and will be among those tackling the demanding Brazilian urban circuit.

THE ANALYSIS

According to Rik Verbrugghe, IAM Cycling sports manager. “IAM Cycling wants to continue to ride the wave of success that we found at the Tour de France. However, nothing is simple or a given because a one day race is completely different to racing a multi-stage tour. But we have a team that is certainly capable of influencing the race.”

THE EXPLANATION

As given by Jarlinson Pantano, who took three podiums in the recent Tour de France. “I am delighted to be participating for the second time in this race. I did it last year, but I was also sick. This time, I hope to come with all my strength. The course should suit me well. And who knows, maybe I can follow the best and be among them in the final showdown.”
