Stefan Denifl takes climber’s jersey at Bayern-Rundfahrt

After a quiet first day at the Bayern-Rundfahrt, IAM Cycling has taken the initiative again in spite of the grey Bavarian weather.

During the 192.6 kilometer second stage, the riders under the tutelage of Marcello Albasini and Kjell Carlström went out on the offensive.

Although the stage victory went to South African Daryl Impey (Orica-GreenEdge) after a gently uphill sprint, the riders from the Swiss Pro Continental team finished having made a good impression and won some of the day’s spoils.

From the outset in Mühldorf, there was not a breakaway attempt that did not contain at least one IAM Cycling member.  Heinrich Haussler, back to business after his successful cobbled campaign, tried his luck, as did Marcel Wyss, who is still enjoying the good legs that won him the Tour of Bern.  Reabsorbed fairly quickly, the man from Bern certainly felt the burn in his legs on the climb that made the ultimate selection of this queen stage.

That did not prevent Stefan Denifl from taking first place over the climbs and grabbing the best climber’s jersey in the process.

“After my classics campaign, I am now well rested.  I started training with a ton of motivation.  Today, I found myself in the front when a group went on the attack.  I felt very comfortable and at ease.  I had great sensations in my legs and so worked to be the best climber.  I crested two of the climbs in first place and feel the jersey is a fantastic reward.  I will do everything I can to defend it until Sunday.”
